Piston type air motor is a relatively common type of air motor, which is mainly used in mining machinery and can also be used as a drive motor for conveyor belts and the like. The piston air motor will inevitably fail during operation, so what is the working principle of the piston air motor? Let me explain to you below.

1. What is a piston air motor?

Piston type air motor is a kind of air motor which converts the linear motion of several pistons into rotary motion by crank or swash plate. According to its different structure, it can be divided into radial piston type and axial piston type. The piston air motor is suitable for occasions with low speed and high torque. The gas consumption is not small, and there are many components, and the price is high. Its output power is 0.2 ~ 20kW, and its speed is 200 ~ 4500r / min. Piston type air motors are mainly used in mining machinery and can also be used as drive motors for conveyor belts and the like.

, Working Principle of Piston Air Motor

1. Pneumatic actuator that converts the pressure energy of compressed gas into mechanical energy and generates rotary motion in pneumatic transmission. The commonly used pneumatic motor is a volumetric air motor, which uses the volume change of the working chamber to perform work, and is divided into blade type, piston type and gear type. The picture shows a schematic diagram of a vane air motor. The rotor is installed in the eccentric stator. The blades are installed in the radial slots of the rotor, and the bottom is equipped with a spring, which divides the space between the stator and the rotor into many small air chambers

2. When the compressed gas enters the air chamber from the inlet A, the rotor is driven to rotate, the exhaust gas is discharged from the exhaust port C, and the residual gas is discharged from the outlet B. The rotational speed of the vane type air motor is 0 ~ 25000 rpm, the working pressure is 0.4 ~ 0.8 MPa, and the power is 0.6 ~ 18 kW. Stepless speed regulation can be achieved by changing the input flow. The directional control valve can control the positive and negative rotation of the air motor, with a fast rise speed and overload protection characteristics

3. Pneumatic motors can be used in places such as humidity, high temperature, explosion-proof, fire prevention, frequent starting, starting with load, frequent change of direction and stepless speed regulation. Various special tools can be made by attaching special tools to the blade-type air motor shaft. If the air motor is used as the main drive of the pneumatic power head, it can be used for drilling, countersinking, reaming, grinding and tapping. Dozens of pneumatic power heads can be arranged on the pneumatic combination machine tool for aircraft, automobile and instrument manufacturing at the same time.

3. What are the characteristics of piston air motors?

1. Small volume can produce high power;

2. High adaptability, the temperature rise is small, the speed can be changed with the load until the load is stopped without any damage to the air motor, so a lower coefficient can be considered when selecting;

3. Emergency start, emergency stop, especially suitable for frequent start, and it is very easy to change direction;

4. Simple stepless speed regulation, from zero to large, flexible operation;

5. The starting torque is large and can start with load;

6. The structure is simple, and the service life of the air motor is particularly long;

7. Not affected by the external environment, even in harsh environments such as water, dust, humidity, dirt, etc., because the internal pressure of the air motor is higher than the external pressure during operation;

8. Explosion-proof, air motor does not produce sparks, overheating, explosion, short circuit (electricity) and other risk factors, especially suitable for environments with flammable and explosive substances or high temperature, such as the stirring of solvents, paints, chemicals, etc.
